History
Amidst the brutal aggravation of imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism, and at the forefront of the people's intensifying struggle, the League of Filipino Students was founded.
The league was established in September 11,1977, initially as a nationwide alliance against prevalent tuition increase and campus repression during the Marcos Dictatorship. Through collective and contentious struggle, the students won significant gains such as tuition rollbacks, restoration of student councils, publications, and progressive organizations, as well as the abolition of military and police detachments and control within campuses. The LFS was transformed into a National Democratic Mass Organization in 1982 as a result of the students' movement, political struggle development, and as a significant effort to consolidate and lead its actions. It led the youth's campaign against the U.S. Military Bases in the country in the late 1980's until its seizure in 1991. Since then, it has been known as the vanguard of the Filipino youth's anti-imperialist struggle. |
Through the decades, LFS has drawn a significant part in the pages of history of the youth's movement and people's struggles.
Presently, the LFS has broadened to hundreds of chapters and formations nationwide and abroad, and continued to live up to its commitment to serve the youth and the people for the national democratic aspirations. |
